Karachi Kings defeated Lahore Qalandars by 86 runs in their final league stage match of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 8 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday.
Chasing a target of 197 runs, Qalandars were restricted to 110 runs in 18.5 overs.
The Qalandars were mostly on the back foot during the run chase as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Hussain Talat scored 25 runs on behalf of Qalandars.
On behalf of the winning team, Imad Wasim, Akif Javed, Muhammad Umar and Imran Tahir took two wickets each.
Opting to bat first, Kings scored 7-196 in the allotted 20 overs.
Opener Mohammad Akhlaq scored 51 runs off 36 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes.
Tayyab Tahir scored 40 runs while captain Imad Wasim added 45 runs.
On behalf of Lahore, Zaman Khan, Haris Rauf and Hussain Talat took two wickets each.
Since Lahore had already qualified for the playoffs, captain Shaheen Afridi was rested for today’s match. In the fast bowler’s absence, David Wiese led the defending champions.
The Qalandars were playing for pride since they were knocked out of the playoff race earlier in the tournament.
In the first match of the day, Peshawar Zalmi defeated Islamabad United by 13 runs in Rawalpindi to ensure a match between the two teams in Eliminator 1 of the event.
The result also confirmed that defending champions Lahore Qalandars will face Multan Sultans in the qualifiers of the tournament.
The qualifier, whose winner will qualify directly for the final, will be played on March 15, while Eliminator 1 will take place on March 16.
The loser of the qualifier and the winner of Eliminator 1 will clash in Eliminator 2 on March 17 for a place in the final.
Since Qalandars have already qualified for the playoffs, captain Shaheen Afridi has been rested for today’s match. In the fast bowler’s absence, David Wiese led the defending champions.
